How To Rank Higher On Google Maps: Dext Marketing

Ever wonder how you can rank higher on Google Maps? We’ve all heard of ranking higher on Google, but what about Google Maps?

If there WAS a way, wouldn’t it be game changing? After all, it’s the first place we go to when looking for a sealcoating company, (or any local service for that matter).

And think of it, if you wanted your driveway sealed, wouldn’t it be your go-to place? And that’s why for many businesses, Google Maps easily outshines their other marketing strategies.

It’s like going down a hill on a bike ride, the speed makes pedaling pointless.

So the more you rank on Google Maps, the more clients walk in the door. However, if your profile is as good as a fire extinguisher filled with gasoline, you’ll end up being the smart, but lazy kid at school.

All of the potential, none of the results.

That’s not who you’re looking to be, and that’s why I’ve compiled 6 ways you can use to rank higher on Google Maps.

💼#1 Start With Your Google Business Profile

It all begins with the Google Business Profile. That’s what shows up when someone searches for a service in a location, example: “driveway sealing near me” or “Driveway sealing in Ottawa.”

It’s used to list businesses on Google Maps, just like your website on google.

And the exact same fundamentals apply when ranking on Google Maps.

You increase your authority and relevance, Google increases your rankings.

📍#2 Proximity Is King On Google Maps

The location of your business is still the number 1 ranking factor on Google maps. Except there is one problem… You can’t change your location. You’re either near the customer or not.

But there are still SOME Things you CAN do:

  • Get a real second location: best method
  • Get more service areas: minor help
  • Make Specific local pages on your website: Big long-term booster

Warning!

Do not set up fake locations like a PO box or a friend’s house, Google eventually finds and shuts them down, then suspends your account.

⭐️ #3 Get And Respond To Reviews

The whole idea behind ranking is being an authority and relevant to searchers.

And one of the best ways to show that is by having loads of positive reviews. They’re basically first hand anecdotes that you’re helpful.

Also make sure you respond to all reviews (good or bad), it’s a way of showing you’re still alive. Being alive is also in the top 10 ranking factors by the way.

Besides, why should Google Maps rank an abandoned warehouse with cobwebs and dust in every corner?

And flickering lights!

Don’t forget the flickering lights!

📸 #4 Add Photos And Keep Adding Them

It’s yet another way of showing you are alive and you take things seriously. Just imagine a photoless profile? Only text. Your customers won’t trust you, google won’t trust you and neither will I.

Also, remember to continuously add new photos, once or twice per week. Don’t vomit out 200 photos on day one, only to ghost your profile for a year.

That brings me to my next point… 👇

🧠 #5 Use Google Posts Like A Mini Blog

Just like with the photos, be sure to regularly add new posts. Especially since they get deleted after 7 days.

It boosts your ranking on Google Maps and makes you more trustable when customers see you updated your profile only 2 days ago.

Infinite upside, 0 down side.

How to post:

Click on the add an update icon, then three options will pop up: add update, add offer and add event. Choose one and alternate between them periodically.

🧾 6. Consistency Across the Web Greatly Affects Your Google Maps Ranking

Consistency across the web is when your business information is the same on all platforms, like instagram, facebook and business directories.

Why is it important?

Because Google crawls the web to see if your NAP (Name, Address and Phone Number)  is the same.

If they see it’s not, Google Maps will rank you lower because it’s less likely any of it is correct

It’s also confusing for potential customers, “is this their phone number or is that their phone number? Is this the address or is that the address? Maybe I’ll go find a different business.”

____________________________________________________________________________

And those are 7 ways to rank higher on google maps. Try to implement at least one of them and you will see dramatic improvements.

However don’t get too hung up over the specifics. What makes you rank is showing you are the most relevant, most established and most trustworthy business.

It’s the fundamentals we should always hold close.
